"Marc and Elaine Zicree are not only talented writers, but two of the most dedicated, compassionate and decent people I have ever met. Their consistently strong work is always thoughtful and intelligent. I have the utmost respect for the Zicrees, both professionally and personally. They are always willing to help others; to share their knowledge, experience and contacts. I feel very fortunate to have learned and benefited from their wise counsel. They are my angels!"

Elaine's background was, if anything, even MORE ideal for a writer. Elaine wrote, directed and acted Off-Broadway, was active in the Civil Rights movement in the 60s, got overly radical and had to flee the country to cool off (rather than blowing away the opposition like she wanted to do), lived a year in Israel and s ix months on a Greek Island where no one spoke English (so she had to learn Greek), came back and hoboed around the country, working as a maid, crop-picker, waitress, etc.

Most importantly, when she and Marc were first married, she was head of a federal program serving seniors, in which she oversaw staff, budget, scheduling, everything -- PERFECT background for a producer.

They got their artistic partnership off to a bang when they flew to New York and pitched Elaine's series idea THORNFIELD to Tom Fontana, executive producer of HOMICIDE and OZ. Within 10 minutes, Fontana came aboard as their partner. But the subject matter was challenging; Tom had shot 15 minutes of OZ to sell it. So Elaine and Marc wrote, executive produced and funded an 18 minute, 35mm pilot presentation of THORNFIELD, with a cast and crew of 85, Fontana giving notes on their script and rough cut. The pilot starred Armin Shimerman, who played Quark on DEEP SPACE NINE and the Principal on BUFFY.

Young Elaine Although Fontana loved the final product, he ultimately grew too busy to be able to stay aboard THORNFIED. Undeterred, Marc and Elaine continued to pursue selling it. But that was far from their only project. In just over one year, they worked on TWO SISTERS, an MOW for Warners (about Elaine's crazy sister); PHILLIP'S HEAD, a two-hour pilot for Showtime; MAGIC TIME, a two hour TV pilot with a series of three novels to be published by HarperCollins (the first due out in hardcover September, 2001, written by Marc and bestselling author Barbara Hambly, the other two by Maya Bohnhoff and Robert Charles Wilson respectively, with Marc overseeing); and CORE, a drama series project with STAR TREK's Jonathan Frakes attached as director.

There's no telling what marvels and surprises these two will go on to create, but this much is certain - whether serving on staff on a top dramatic show, or creating and running one of their own - both they and their work will be well worth watching.
